Discogs gets a lot of bashing. While some of that criticism is justified, much of it stems from not fully understanding what the platform can — and cannot — do.

There’s still a surprising amount of confusion around how Discogs actually works, and many collectors fail to make the most of its more advanced features.

Yes, the layout might look like it’s stuck in the past, but Discogs is far more customisable than it seems.

Even if you don’t collect vinyl, Discogs remains the most comprehensive database and marketplace for physical music in any format. Streaming is becoming increasingly unreliable, with albums disappearing without warning or getting pulled on a whim. Hence why it’s never been more important for any music lover to understand how Discogs works and how to use it properly.

For what it’s worth, I’ve successfully bought, on Discogs alone, more than 500 records (and counting) over the past decade.

No horror stories. No drama. Just consistent results.

Today, I’ll walk you through the techniques that made that possible.
